The new contract of Vitebsk with Gotland

The trading contract of Smolensk, Vitebsk and Polotsk princedoms with Riga and Gotland has been signed for the first time 779 years ago - in 1229, and on June, 2, 2008 the governor of a county Gotland (Sweden) Marianne Samuelsson and chairman Vitebsk gorispolkom Peter Drozdov have signed the new contract about cooperation.
The pact provides development of bilateral economic, technical and cultural cooperation, and also expansion of trade and economic relations.
The parties undertake:
- To assist each other in realization of foreign economic relations,
- To create favorable conditions for all-round contacts of legal and physical persons of the parties,
- To carry out and develop connections in the field of education, sciences and techniques, culture and art, tourism and sports,
- To promote an exchange of art exhibitions, theatrical - concert performances, the tourist and sports organizations.
The contract has come into force from the moment of its signing and is made for uncertain term.
One of the predominating enterprises of Gotland - the enterprise on manufacture of dolomite. And madam the governor has noted, that heating of recently put into operation large ice arena is fastened on use of dolomite, that mayor of Vitebsk has noted to itself.
Chairman Vitebsk горисполкома Peter Drozdov has invited the governor of a county Gotland Marianne Samuelsson to visit Vitebsk during time of " Slavonic  bazaar”, and she has in turn invited Vitebsk mayor to festival of Vikings “ Medieval week ” which traditionally passes on island Gotland in August.
